Tips & strategies
Consider the reply as well as the move
A board position is more than a set of available spaces. Read the game’s own movement rules and constraints first, especially when its pieces resemble a familiar game. For each candidate move, ask what response it permits or which area it makes unavailable. In a placement puzzle, eliminate impossible locations before guessing. In a competitive board game, check immediate threats before building a longer plan.
A useful next attempt
Compare a short sequence of consequences rather than judging one square in isolation. If a move fails, work backward to the point where the position became difficult to recover. A clear understanding of one rule is more valuable than applying a strategy from a different game.
